Penny Lancaster Joins Jenni Falconer in the new series of Routes from LNER
14/10/2025
Award-winning podcast Routes from LNER has officially set off on its second series, with Jenni Falconer welcoming her first guest, Penny Lancaster, to share the journeys and destinations that have shaped her life.
From childhood holidays to Bournemouth and Southend, to early work trips to Milan at just 17, and a few sun-soaked years living in Bermuda, Penny’s stories span continents and decades. Travel has also played a central role alongside her husband, legendary rocker Rod Stewart, whether on family tours, exploring Scotland and America, or escaping together to Tanzania, Paris or Portofino.
Beyond the glamour and adventure, Penny reflects on how her outlook has evolved. Despite owning homes in sunnier spots, it’s the British countryside that truly feels like home, a place to unwind with her dogs and reconnect with what matters most. She is also deeply passionate about making positive and tangible changes for the future.
In her fifties, Penny has added yet another string to her bow: becoming a Special Constable for the City of London Police. Inspired by her time filming Famous and Fighting Crime, she trained post-Covid and has since proudly served at the Queen’s Funeral, King’s Coronation, and London Marathon. The role has deepened her respect for service and community, and she is particularly determined to make the world a safer place, especially for women in society.
The launch marks the start of a brand-new chapter for Routes from LNER, now hosted by Jenni Falconer, who brings her warmth, curiosity, and love of travel to every conversation. New guests will arrive every two weeks, with a special Quiet Coach companion episode released in the week between.
Series two promises travel stories from a brilliant mix of talent, from comedians to chart-topping singers.
Speaking ahead of the first release, Jenni Falconer said: “It is such a privilege for me to have been invited to be a part of the Routes team and join new guests on their journeys.
As someone who loves travel and has explored so much of the British Isles, it’s been a joy to chat with each guest as they share the places they love or that have inspired them. It’s lovely to hear snippets of their childhood, and get to understand where they came from and how it’s shaped them into who they are today.
Our first guest of this series is Penny Lancaster. We discussed how travelling for her has evolved over the years, from her family holidays as a child in Bournemouth to more recent travels in the wilds of Tanzania and tying the knot in Portofino.
Every guest gives an insight into their upbringing whilst at the same time revealing their passions and the Routes they have taken in their journey so far.
Stuart Thomas, Communications Director at LNER, added:
“It’s so exciting to have Routes back for series 2, and what a delight to have Jenni Falconer in the driving seat. I know listeners will love hearing Penny Lancaster’s stories and can’t wait for what’s still to come in the months ahead with some fantastic guests. Whether they’re listening onboard via the seatback QR code, or their usual podcast platform, I’ve no doubt Routes will entertain and inspire.
Whether you’re a regular on the route or simply love a good story, Routes with LNER is your ticket to something unexpected.
